Stephen W Tayler has created new stereo, 5.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Atmos mixes of Genesis’ 1969 debut album, From Genesis to Revelation, for a major new edition to be released by Cherry Red/Esoteric on 9 October 2026.

Stephen’s new mixes revisit the album with a greater focus on the band’s performances. He has also remixed “A Winter’s Tale” and “One Eyed Hound”, the album out-takes “Image Blown Out” and the previously unreleased “Visions of Angels”, together with four previously unreleased demos from 1968.

Prepared with the approval of original members Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford, the album will be issued as a deluxe 4CD/Blu-ray box set, alongside 2CD and double-vinyl editions. The deluxe set includes Stephen’s new stereo, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos mixes, rare recordings and demos, together with filmed discussions with Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford at AIR Studios.

Stephen W Tayler has created new stereo, 5.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Atmos mixes of Tina Turner’s landmark album, Private Dancer, for a new Blu-ray edition to be released on 25 September 2026.

The project brings Stephen back to an album he first worked on more than forty years ago. He recorded and mixed the original recordings of “I Might Have Been Queen” and “Better Be Good To Me” in 1984.

For the new edition, Stephen has remixed the complete album in stereo, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos, and has also created instrumental versions of the entire record in all three formats. The new mixes are accompanied by the original 1984 stereo mix, bonus tracks and promotional films.

The Blu-ray will be released by SDE Records as No. 67 in the SDE Surround Series.

Sadia Sadia’s three-channel video installation …and falling, fulling blooming (The Sacred Ground) I–III was presented at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, Venice, as part of United Media Artists’ Anima Mundi programme.

Created in 2018, …and falling, fulling blooming is a three-channel video installation with sound.

The work appeared across three successive exhibitions: Rituals, 20 May–4 June; Consciousness, 19 June–3 July; and Visions, 17–31 July 2026.

In February, Stephen's new stereo and 5.1 surround mixes of Hawkwind’s 1970 debut album were released in an expanded edition on Esoteric Recordings. Eve Polycarpou’s Not in a Million Years, mixed by Stephen at The Light Room, followed in April.

In June, Stephen's new stereo, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos mixes of Chris Squire’s Fish Out of Water were released as part of the 50th Anniversary Remix Edition.

Todd Rundgren’s Live at the Ritz, New York City 1989, newly mixed from the original multitrack recordings, will be released in September.

A recording produced by Sadia Sadia more than forty years ago returned for the 2026 Winter Olympics when “Do the Bearcat”, performed by David Wilcox and originally released on Out of the Woods (1977), was used in Petro-Canada’s Winter Games campaign in support of Team Canada.

The campaign was created by McCann Canada. Creative Director Bill Schaefer told Little Black Book that he and his friends had listened to “Do the Bearcat” in high school. After trying a number of more obvious Canadian tracks against the film, he said: “I couldn’t stop thinking about this one.”

2025 Update: Sadia Sadia has authored a paper on the relationship between ‘inner voice’ and spatial audio, employing her thirty-channel audio installation ‘Notes to an Unknown Lover’ as source material in combination with research undertaken in Red Room at Real World. She collaborated with Professor Claus-Christian Carbon and joined his EPAEG [Ergonomics, Psychological Æsthetics and Gestaltung] Research Group.

December 2023: Sadia Sadia threw the event-of-a-lifetime at Real World to celebrate Stephen’s seventieth birthday and fifty years in the music business. A capacity crowd of the most exceptional and accomplished people from across the decades [and the globe, not forgetting those who flew in to join!] gathered to celebrate Stephen’s extraordinary life and achievements.

After ten years at Millside, our studio space ‘The Light Room’ has relocated to the main campus at Real World Studios.

Sadia Sadia exhibited her ultra-slow motion works The Descent [Wakako falling] (2017) and One Second (2015) at RWA Royal Academy of the West of England, The Kenny Gallery, from 8th October – 11th December 2022

San Francisco Redux was presented at the Royal Society of Arts, London, on 6 October 2022.

2022: Sadia Sadia was made Senior Industry Fellow, School of Art, RMIT Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University. RMIT has been ranked as a global Top Twenty in Art and Design in QS Universities Rankings 2022/23.

She also became a member of British Art Network [BAN] at Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art/Tate.

Stephen was profiled in Future’s Prog Magazine (Issue 125) as well as in The Bath Magazine (January 2022) where he talks about the history of multi-track recording, his creative practice and his new album in ‘Working in the box’.

Universal’s Van der Graaf Generator twenty–disc box set with new stereo and surround mixes by Stephen was released on September 3rd 2021. It has since gone Top Forty in the UK and Top Twenty in Germany and sold out.

There are also remixes of the albums H to He Who Am the Only One, Pawn Hearts, Godbluff and Still Life. These have been stunningly remixed from the original multi-track tapes in both Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound by Stephen W Tayler. These four albums have also been made available separately as 3-disc Sets, including Original Stereo Mixes.

The ‘Drastic Plastic’ box set with new stereo and surround mixes by Stephen was released by Esoteric Recordings in February 2021. The sixteen–disc Be-Bop Deluxe ‘Live! In the Air Age’ with new stereo mixes from SWT was released on August 27th 2021.

Stephen’s new solo album ‘Da Capo’, a two disc CD+DVD set featuring stereo, surround and visuals, has been released through Burning Shed (physical) and Cherry Red (digital).

Announcing the permanent installation of Sadia’s work ‘All Time and Space Fold into the Infinite Present (Cataract Gorge)’ as part of QVMAG’s 130th Anniversary Royal Park relaunch [“QVMAG delivers ‘powerful’ artistic era” — The Sunday Examiner, 1 August 2021]. The installation fills the entirety of Gallery Eight’s forty five foot length in QVMAG’s Royal Park.

Sadia Sadia’s paper ‘Empirical Methodologies and the Value of Subjectivity in the Analysis of the Experience of Contemporary Experiential Art’ was published in Art & Perception (ARTP), 9(1), 1–20, Brill on March 9th 2021.

In the paper, Sadia argues the case for placing artists’ perception at the heart of neuroaesthetic study. She defines a group of “contemporary experiential artworks…as ATRIA (Affective Transcendental Revelatory Immersive Artworks), which report a significantly higher rate for profound, life-changing, epiphanic, transcendent experiences” and argues that “research artists understand that objective reality does not lie at the core of the experience of art, and that practice-based artist-led research…must as a consequence critically inform any neuroaesthetic or neuroscientific endeavour or study.”

Stephen’s work with the Be-Bop Deluxe catalogue surround and stereo remixes continues. 2019 saw reissues of ‘Futurama’ and ‘Modern Music’, and in 2020 a box set of their debut album ‘Axe Victim’.

He also recently compiled and remastered ‘Fighting Apathy with Shock’, a collection comprising tracks he co-produced with Rupert Hine. This now sadly represents the last time he worked with Rupert, who tragically passed away in June 2020 after a long illness.

On August 2nd 2020 Howard Jones performed an exclusive live streamed solo concert from the Siyan Soundstage in High Wycombe. Stephen mixed the live audio, and along with film crew, lighting director, video director and live streaming team, all worked safely and in isolation. With a new mix by Stephen ‘Live at Siyan’ has since been released as a limited edition CD, and is now available as video from iTunes.

Sadia Sadia has taken delivery of her limited edition artist's book ‘The Tarkine’, based on images captured during her Tasmanian artist residency in 2020. Earlier this year, Sadia travelled through the Tarkine (‘Takayna’), which comprises one of the world’s outstanding and consequential cool-temperature Gondwana rainforests alongside some of Australia’s most important Aboriginal regions. She drove through vast areas of landscape that had been completely ravaged by fire and witnessed nature, that overwhelming elemental force, fighting its way back. When she returned to the studio she unpacked the images and produced this unique book. Special thanks to Belinda Cotton at Tailored Services for the Arts.

The work, which in its final format will contain multiple elements including moving images and audio, was made possible through the generous provision of a Research and Creation Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

Sadia Sadia returned to Cataract Gorge as artist in residence for QVMAG and the City of Launceston, Tasmania, in early 2020. During the residency she also filmed in takayna/Tarkine in northwest Tasmania, continuing her investigation of landscape, ecological experience and the transcendent.

She returned to her studio at Real World at the beginning of March.

The residency was made possible through the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts.

Saturday December 14th 2019: Stephen premiered his new album ‘Da Capo’ as a multimedia event in The Big Room here at Real World Studios.

The performance was preceded by a drinks reception in The Wood Room, compliments of Focusrite.

On June 24th Sadia spoke at the ISEA 2019 25th International Symposium on Electronic Art in Gwangju, South Korea. Her presentation ‘The Illuminated Self’ incorporated her writings surrounding affect in encompassing environments, alongside her immersive installation works. The work was made possible through the provision of an Arts Abroad grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

February 2019: Sadia Sadia premiered the first full installation of her multi-channel work Ghosts of Noise in The Model Citizen at RMIT Gallery, Melbourne, 8 February–23 March 2019. The work responds to the ‘aesthetics of the machine’ – in this case, the information-delivery complex and the cyclical nature of the 24-hour news cycle. Hundreds of layers of broadcast material were assembled into an encompassing audiovisual environment, producing what Sadia described as an omnipresent ‘noise’. Sadia writes: "It is the dark side of the constructed transcendent experience, and worthy of examination in close detail as it mediates the relationship between the inner self and the structures of power."

November 2018: Stephen W Tayler took part in a special event at Metropolis Studios marking the release of the expanded box sets of Howard Jones’ Human’s Lib and Dream Into Action on Cherry Red Records. Stephen recorded and mixed the original albums.

November 2018: Sadia Sadia undertook a Leighton Artist Residency at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Banff, Alberta, Canada, marking her first return to Canada in almost thirty years. During the residency she completed The Transcendental Suite, a three-channel moving-image work exploring whether an element of the sacred might be found in both grand vista and ecological devastation, and whether the experience of awe might lead from individual epiphany towards meaningful collective change.

The work forms part of Sadia Sadia’s continuing investigation into transcendence and the construction of heightened aesthetic experience within the encompassing environment. She also filmed …and falling, fulling blooming [The Sacred Ground] during the residency.

November 2018: Lots of releases this month! Be-Bop Deluxe’s Sunburst Finish has been reissued with new stereo and 5.1 mixes by Stephen W Tayler. Brand X’s Live Blu-ray has also been released, with the concert footage edited and the audio mixed in 5.1 by Stephen.

Howard Jones’ Human’s Lib and Dream Into Action have been reissued in expanded box sets, remastered from the original tapes by Stephen and including previously unreleased material.

And Kate Bush has remastered her entire catalogue for release on CD and vinyl. Kate Bush – Remastered Part II includes three albums mixed by Stephen, also available on vinyl as part of Kate Bush – Remastered Set III.

Melbourne, September 2018: Sadia Sadia and Stephen W Tayler on a flying visit to speak, watch, look and listen. Stephen spoke at RMIT University at the invitation of Andrew Duffield, keyboardist and songwriter with Models. Stephen had produced the band’s Local &/or General album in 1981 — a musical association stretching back nearly four decades.

Sadia Sadia presented The Sacred Ground: Enhancing and Constructing the Transcendent State in the Installation Environment at the Visual Science of Art Conference (VSAC) in Trieste, Italy, on 25 August 2018. Her research examined how installation environments might be constructed to increase the likelihood of cathartic, transcendent or epiphanic experience.

VSAC is organised as a satellite conference of the ECVP (European Conference on Visual Perception), the leading European conference on visual science.

Sadia Sadia presented Catharsis and the Encompassing Environment in Art in the Neo-Digital Age at the Cognitive Futures in the Arts and Humanities Conference at the University of Kent, Canterbury, in July 2018. Her paper examined how an encompassing environment might be modelled to increase the likelihood of transcendent experience or profound affect.

The conference drew together topics such as cognitive neuroscience and the arts, cognitive poetics, spectatorship and participation, material culture, theories of mind, empirical aesthetics and interdisciplinary methodologies.

Sadia Sadia presented 'The ‘Wow’ Factor and the Loudness Wars' at the Society for Cognitive Studies of the Moving Image (SCSMI) 2018 Conference in Bozeman, Montana. The paper examined cognitive fatigue in contemporary film and audio, arguing that increasingly intense forms of sensory stimulation intended to capture attention can instead produce habituation and attentional fatigue, becoming ultimately self-defeating.

The conference drew together an international group of philosophers, critics, scientific researchers, professional filmmakers, artists and moving-image theorists for three days of presentations and discussions on aesthetics, cognition and the moving image.

Stephen produced and mixed the Pieter Nooten album ‘Stem’. “Nooten finds another valuable foil in British producer and mixer Stephen W Tayler.

Brand X have released their live album ‘Locked & Loaded’, mixed by Stephen, and are preparing the release of the RoSfest 2018 concert on DVD. The video of the concert is edited by Stephen alongside the audio mix. Stephen is also preparing some surround remixes for Cherry Red Records, watch this space for upcoming news!

The work was developed during Sadia Sadia’s Studio 18 International Artist Residency at Gertrude Contemporary in Melbourne and filmed in Australia.

Sadia Sadia argues the case for fair wages for musicians and sound artists at the Sound Diplomacy Music Cities Convention at Arts Centre Melbourne, 19–20 April 2018. Speaking on the panel The Visitor Economy: Music Tourism & its Impact on Local Musicians and Living Culture, she argued for the economic value generated by music tourism to be reflected in fair remuneration for the musicians and artists whose work sustains that culture.

Sound Diplomacy works to create and deliver strategies that increase the value of music ecosystems worldwide.

December 2017: a couple of days ago a package turned up at Real World with Stephen’s gold albums for his work with Kate Bush.

Delighted to see the set of three albums, a great achievement that includes the three disc version of ‘Before The Dawn’, now hanging together.

An audio installation version of Sadia’s ‘Notes To An Unknown Lover’ ran as part of the show ‘Poetry: A Text and Word Based Exhibition’ at the George Paton Gallery, Melbourne, from October 4th – 13th 2017. For this exhibition, the work has been processed in stereo with 3D audio software creating psychoacoustic sound localisation and distance cues.

Stephen performed solo live for the first time in his life, debuting his audio-visual performance piece ‘Ostinato LIVE’ at the Pound Arts Centre, Corsham on July 22nd 2017.

Kate Bush’s long-awaited project KT Fellowship presents Before The Dawn was released on CD and vinyl on 25 November 2016. The album comprises live performances gathered from the 22 sold-out Before the Dawn concerts at London’s Hammersmith Apollo in 2014, Kate’s first live shows in thirty-five years.

Our own Stephen W Tayler mixed the album with Kate, as well as doing audio postproduction on the project.

The album reached No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart, and No. 1 on the UK Vinyl Albums, Record Store and Progressive Albums charts.

‘San Francisco Redux No.1’ is a dramatic reworking by Sadia Sadia, Stephen W Tayler and Anthony Stern of a ‘psychedelically enhanced’ excerpt from the award-winning film ‘San Francisco’ [1968]. The work rang as an installation at Australia’s largest regional museum, QVMAG [the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery] in Launceston, Tasmania, through the end of November 2015.

Esoteric Antenna announced the release of a stunning new album by the award winning producer, sound designer, engineer and mixer Stephen W Tayler.

‘Ostinato’ is a labour of love, built on a forty years’ vision by Stephen.

Sadia Sadia’s four-channel installation Ghosts of Noise was screened and discussed as part of the international colloquium Les Devenirs Artistiques de L'Information at the Sorbonne in Paris on 10–11 June 2015. The colloquium was co-sponsored by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Internationales Kolleg für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie (IKKM), the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research, and ELICO, Équipe de recherche de Lyon.

Sadia Sadia spoke about collaboration, transferability, and working in the arts, as a guest speaker at the University of London Birkbeck College Arts Symposium 2015 on May 22nd 2015.

Rupert Hine and Stephen W Tayler hosted the 25th anniversary celebration of One World One Voice, Kevin Godley’s 1990 international music and film project, in the Big Room at Real World Studios on 22 May 2015.

Among the highlights of the evening were screenings of the two films, originally broadcast internationally in 1990 and freshly restored by Stephen for the anniversary.

The event was sponsored by Real World Studios, Focusrite and Chimera Arts.

In October 2014, Sadia Sadia premiered Fugue [Die Wende], a filmed installation about the removal of light. The title refers to Die Wende (‘the turning point’), the period of political change that led to the end of the German Democratic Republic and German reunification. The history had a personal resonance for Sadia: her mother was born in Crossen an der Oder, later part of East Germany, and subsequently escaped to the West.

The work, made with Stephen W Tayler and Munce, formed part of the City of Leipzig’s Lichtfest 2014 Kulturparcours, commemorating the Peaceful Revolution and the demonstrations of 9 October 1989 in Leipzig, a decisive moment in the collapse of the East German regime and the events leading to the fall of the Berlin Wall exactly one month later.

Fugue [Die Wende] was presented across two locations: as part of Sadia Sadia’s solo exhibition Echoes and Ashes at LIA, Spinnerei, and at HALLE 14 – Centre for Contemporary Art.

From August to October 2014 Sadia lived and worked in Leipzig. In September 2014, she premiered her thirty-channel audio installation ‘Notes To An Unknown Lover’ [‘Hinweise zu einem unbekannten Liebenden’] at the Leipzig Spinnerei ‘Rundgang’.

The work is based on her artist monograph of the same name and each channel features one poem, recorded by the artist. The varying lengths of the lines of text, broken by set intervals, combine to form a cascade of sound. This produces a random reading of the text from which limitless discrete combinations arise, creating a infinite number of ‘fresh’ readings of the work.

Stephen has recently concluded work on Kate Bush’s Before the Dawn – KT Fellowship at the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo. Following five months of rehearsals, the twenty-two-show residency opened on Tuesday August 26th 2014, marking Kate’s return to the stage after thirty-five years. Stephen was credited as Kate Vocal Navigator, responsible for managing and mixing Kate’s live vocal sound.

All 77,000 tickets for the residency sold out in under fifteen minutes. The shows subsequently opened to extraordinary international acclaim.

All Time and Space Fold Into the Infinite Present (Cataract Gorge) premiered at the Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery (QVMAG), Inveresk, Launceston, Tasmania, on January 10th 2014.

The three-channel moving-image installation was presented across a nine-foot by forty-eight-foot screen and developed from footage recorded by Sadia in Cataract Gorge, where the South Esk River passes through the gorge immediately beside the city.

The exhibition continued until March 2nd 2014. All Time and Space Fold Into the Infinite Present (Cataract Gorge) was subsequently acquired by QVMAG for its permanent collection.

Notes To An Unknown Lover

Notes To An Unknown Lover is an artist’s book by Sadia Sadia, comprising a cycle of thirty poems addressed by a woman to an unknown lover.

Written as a sequence of intimate addresses, the work moves between memory, desire, observation and imagined presence. The unknown lover is both recipient and absence: a figure through whom private thought becomes an extended meditation on intimacy, longing and time.

Conceived as both literary work and physical object, Notes To An Unknown Lover was produced in a limited first edition of 950 copies in 2013, printed and case bound in England by Butler, Tanner & Dennis.

May 20th 2013: Sadia’s book 'Notes to an Unknown Lover' goes to press at Butler, Tanner & Dennis in Frome, Somerset. BT&D have been printing in the UK for over 160 years and specialise in the production of colour and fine art books (see photograph of the Heidelberg press, above, with the empty wooden paper pallets in the foreground). The A5 book is printed on 150gm coated Condat Matt paper in four colour process throughout. Wibalin endpapers, case bound, thread sewn, unprinted case on Brillianta material mounted over 2750 micron board, foil blocked spine and front in Kurz Colorit 932.

Update July 2014: It is with great sadness that we report that Butler, Tanner & Dennis, of Frome, Somerset, winners of ‘Best British Book’ at the British Book Design and Production Awards (BPIF) 2013 held on 4 November, and Book Printer of the Year in eight of the last ten years, went into administration on May 23rd 2014. They were the UK’s leading book and publications printer for 166 years.

It was a privilege to work with their exceptional fine art team on ‘Notes to an Unknown Lover’, and they manufactured a book which is a beautiful object in its own right. It is difficult to believe that the factory is being decommissioned and that we will never get the chance to return.

January – October 2013: In January of this year, Sadia and Stephen started sharing a project space at Real World Studios “It was a big move, and a complete change to our old patterns of working” says Sadia.

In October, they inherited the lease of the Millside studio, and Real World became ‘home’. The studio is currently set up for sound, still and moving image work, but the space can be adapted and optimised depending on the project at hand.

“Since I’ve moved in, I’ve worked on a variety of material: music, concert visuals, and of course mixing” says Stephen. “Real World is residential, which makes it easy for my international clients, or anybody who might not be local, to come and live and work in this creative environment. It’s good for concentration, and I find projects get completed swiftly and well, inspired by the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.”

The studio has most recently been used for the post-production and modelling of the acoustics of an exhibition space, in order to test the audio prior to an installation.

Stephen’s Remix of ‘Running Up That Hill’ at London 2012

We are delighted to report that Stephen’s remix of the Kate Bush song ‘Running Up That Hill [A Deal With God]’ was played in its entirety at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, broadcast to an estimated worldwide television audience of 750 million.

The track accompanied one of the ceremony’s central sequences, as performers brought 303 white boxes – representing the 303 Olympic events – into the stadium and assembled them into a pyramid onto which highlights from the Games were projected.

Kate subsequently said that she was “completely thrilled and touched” by the overwhelming response to the remix and described being included in the Closing Ceremony as a huge honour.

Following the ceremony, ‘Running Up That Hill’ reached No. 6 on the UK Official Singles Chart.

Kate Bush’s 50 Words for Snow won the South Bank Sky Arts Award 2012 for Best Pop Album on May 1st 2012, beating strong competition from Adele’s 21 and P J Harvey’s Let England Shake.

The album was mixed by Stephen, who also recorded a number of the guest performers, including Elton John, Stephen Fry and Steve Gadd.

We are delighted to say that the album has had an almost overwhelmingly positive reception both at home and internationally, with acclaim from The Guardian, The Times, The Independent, The Sunday Times, Mojo, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, NME, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Time Magazine.

50 Words for Snow entered the UK Albums Chart at No. 5 and was subsequently nominated for the Ivor Novello Album Award.

Kate Bush released the new album 'Director's Cut' on her own label Fish People, in conjunction with EMI in May 2011.

Stephen mixed eight tracks on Director’s Cut and also recorded a number of the album’s guest musicians.

On 'Director's Cut' Kate revisits a selection of tracks from her albums 'The Sensual World' and 'The Red Shoes', a process that presents a fascinating portrait of an artist in a constant state of evolution. She has re-recorded some elements whilst keeping the best musical performances of each song – making it something of a director’s cut but in sound, not vision.

The album entered the UK Albums Chart at No. 2 and remained in the Top 100 for six weeks.

In 2010, Sadia and Stephen contributed photographs to DayFour: Ulysses 2, revisiting the original Ulysses project in which they had both participated in 2005. They were the only two photographers in the project whose photographs interacted with one another over the course of the day.

DayFour: Ulysses 2 was exhibited at theprintspace, London, from 3 December 2010 into January 2011.

In 2010, Sadia continued developing new installation projects alongside international research and professional travel, including visits to FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool and New York.

During her Studio 18 International Artist Residency at Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne, Sadia began production of Metamorphoses in ‘A’ Minor, a moving-image installation filmed at Sydney Gate. The project was made possible with the generous support of Kennedy Miller Mitchell, Gertrude Contemporary and the British Council [Australia].

Sadia was awarded a Studio 18 International Artist Residency at Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne, for international contemporary visual artists pursuing innovative professional practices. During the residency she developed and premiered Metamorphoses in ‘A’ Minor, and discussed the work in an artist talk with Amita Kirpalani.

Metamorphoses in ‘A’ Minor was subsequently presented at the Third Annual Sarah Lawrence College Dancefilm Festival at the Heimbold Visual Arts Center in New York in 2018.

The Tricycle Theatre [“Britain’s leading political theatre” The Guardian] has screened ‘The Noon Gun’ as part of their season The Great Game: Aspects of Afghanistan May 1st–10th 2009. The season received an Olivier Award Nomination for Outstanding Achievement.

San Francisco Redux No. 1 was screened at the États Généraux du Film Documentaire in Lussas, where it featured in film theorist Nicole Brenez’s programme On the Subject of Regrettable Searching – Body to Body, the Filmed Body. Brenez later wrote an essay on the film.

The film was subsequently screened at the Belfort Film Festival in France in November 2008, followed by Film Mutations in Zagreb, Croatia, from the end of November into December.

On 27 June 2008, four new short films involving Sadia Sadia and Stephen W Tayler received their world premieres at La Cinémathèque Française in Paris, as part of a curated Le Cinéma d’Avant-Garde programme of works by filmmaker Anthony Stern.

The films included The End of the Party: Hyde Park 1969; Iggy, featuring Evelyn “Iggy” Rose, known for her association with Syd Barrett and her appearance on the cover of The Madcap Laughs; Lit from Within; and San Francisco Redux No. 1. Sadia and Stephen's contributions across the works included production, editing and sound design; San Francisco Redux No. 1 was directed, edited, produced and sound-designed by Sadia Sadia with Stephen W Tayler and Anthony Stern.

San Francisco Redux No. 1 subsequently screened at the États Généraux du Film Documentaire in Lussas, where it featured in film theorist Nicole Brenez’s programme On the Subject of Regrettable Searching – Body to Body, the Filmed Body. Brenez later wrote an essay on the film.

In 2008, The Noon Gun continued its international exhibition and festival screenings. In May, the film was presented at the Cleveland Museum of Art as part of a curated film programme, with screenings on 14 and 16 May.

In November, with the support of the British Council, The Noon Gun had its Pakistani premiere at the World Performing Arts Festival in Lahore, where it screened as part of the festival’s programme from 13–23 November 2008.

Stephen spent 2007 recording and mixing in Italy, India and the US. In India, he recorded some of the country’s leading musicians with producer Rupert Hine at Yash Raj Film Studios in Mumbai, including Louiz Banks, Sheldon Shaun D’Silva, Niladri Kumar and percussionist Sivamani, for an album by Mongolian singer-songwriter Nominjin.

Sadia produced, edited and scored the short film The Noon Gun, with her creative partner Stephen W Tayler, with the score credited to Equa. The film draws on footage shot in Afghanistan in 1971, including images of the monumental Buddhas of Bamiyan, destroyed in 2001. Made with support from the British Council, The Noon Gun premiered at the 53rd Melbourne International Film Festival.

It subsequently screened internationally at festivals and institutions including the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, Bradford [now the National Science and media Museum]; Films From the South, Oslo; the Portobello Film Festival, London and Film Mutations, Zagreb. Shortlisted for the Satyajit Ray Foundation Short Film Competition, extracts were screened at BAFTA in London.

The film was also broadcast in Afghanistan by Tolo TV and in Bhutan by Bhutan Broadcasting Service, and in 2009 was presented at the Tricycle Theatre, London, as part of The Great Game: Aspects of Afghanistan. The season received an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement.

In 2004, Sadia’s single-channel installation The Memory of Water [Part I] [2004] was acquired for the permanent collection of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image [ACMI], one of the world’s leading and most visited museums of screen culture [ACMI Accession B1006598]. The work was presented in ACMI’s major exhibition Proof: The Act of Seeing With One's Own Eyes [2004–05], accompanied by the publication of the exhibition book Proof, and was screened across the internal and external screens at Melbourne’s Federation Square. The Memory of Water received prominent contemporary press coverage in Australia, including Lawrie Zion’s “Screening the Truth” in The Australian, Arts/Film, 8 December 2004.
